Timothy P. "Timmy” Roussel is a man of strong convictions, hard work and integrity. Born and raised in Lutcher, he began his first term as the Parish President in January of 2012. Before elected to the Parish President position, he represented District 2 as a council member for 16 years as well as an Alderman for the Town of Lutcher for 5 years. During that time he was elected to serve in 1991 as District "H” vice-president on the Louisiana Municipal Association Executive Board.
He is a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving for 2 years. Timmy earned all of his promotions meritoriously, completing his term of service at the rank of Sergeant (E 5).
Boards & Commissions
Throughout his political career, Timmy has served on several boards and commissions such as the executive board of the Police Jury Association of Louisiana, the National Association of Counties Board of Directors, and the NACo Community and Economic Development Steering Committee. Timmy also served on the Rural Action Caucus with the National Association as an active member as the president. While serving on the parish council Timmy partnered with the former State Representative Nickie Monica and former St. Charles Parish councilman Brian Champagne to create the River Region Caucus.
In 1989 he helped form "St. James Proud,” a clean-up and pride building campaign for the Parish serving as chairman. The program received a national award from the Keep America Beautiful organization. He was appointed by the governor to the Louisiana Litter Reduction and Public Action Commission in 1992 and was commissioned as chairperson in 1994 until 1997. Timmy also sat on the DEQ's Statewide Litter Task Force. While there, he assisted in writing the present State Litter Law.
He served on the Advisory Committee on Intergovernmental Relations with State Government for 3 years. In 1997 he was also commissioned by the Governor to serve on the Mississippi River Road Commission. He is a past member of the River Parishes Hospital Board of Governors. After the two devastating hurricanes in 2005, he was appointed to NACo's Katrina/Rita Task Force that was able to raise over $225,000 to benefit those affected by the storms.
Timmy has over 40-years of industrial experience as a Maintenance Supervisor in the Sulfuric Acid / Power Plant / Water Treatment / Rock Yard / River Dock and Gyp Stack area. Within those years he graduated from an apprenticeship program focusing on millwright and mechanical areas.
He is an avid supporter of numerous community organizations such as Lutcher High School Quarterback Club, St. James High School Booster Club, Knights of Columbus Number 1817, Festival of the Bonfires, and the Lutcher/Gramercy Lions Club.
Timmy is married to his high school sweetheart, Linda Ledet. In 45-years together, they have one daughter, Lauri and two sons, Ryan and Timmy Jr. and 8 grandchildren, Alyssa, Ethan, Tristan, Hayden, Emmie, Ryan, Rylie and Drake.
