Emergency Assistance Pt. 2.1

Financial Assistance Available to St. James Parish Residents

St. James Parish Government, Department of Human Resources, Community Action Agency has been awarded funds through the Huey & Angelina Wilson Grant foundation to assist parish residents who are experiencing a documented financial hardship. St. James Parish residents may apply for emergency assistance such as rental/mortgage, utility/security deposits including connection fees, utility payments, food, medical assistive devices such as: wheelchair ramps and handrails, prescriptive medication, travel vouchers to drug rehab. Fire victims or individuals experiencing other extreme circumstances may be assisted with emergency clothing and lodging. The following documentation is needed to complete an application: identification card for head of household, copies of social security cards for all household members, proof of current household income, documentation of household expenses/bills and hardship within the last 90 days. Additional guidelines may apply.

Emergency Food & Shelter assistance available to St. James Parish Residents

St. James Parish Government, Department of Human Resources, Community Action Agency through the Emergency Food & Shelter Program has funds available to assist parish residents who have experienced a documented economic emergency within the last 90 days. This program will provide assistance with food, diapers, rent/mortgage, and utilities. Persons applying for assistance must provide the following documentation to complete an application: an identification card for head of household, copies of social security cards for all household members, proof of current household income and documentation of household expenses/bills.

St. James Parish Government, Department of Human Resources, CAA Announces its Quarterly Food Bank Distribution Schedule


St. James Parish Government, Department of Human Resources, Community Action Agency along with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank will distribute commodities to eligible families and individuals in St. James Parish on July 26, 2021, and July 27, 2021. Commodities will be distributed in a drive through on a first come, first served basis to all registered applicants. Identification will be required to pick up commodities.

Individuals who have not pre-registered for commodities but would like to apply will be considered as walk-ins. Please call 225-562-2328 if you are interested. Walk-ins will be served only if all pre-registered recipients do not pick up their commodities; however, you will be registered for the next distribution in October 2021.  

Mrs. Ingrid Bergeron LeBlanc, DHR Director, encourages all eligible residents, especially the unemployed, to take advantage of the commodities program. Please remember to bring a box or bag to carry commodities. If you have questions or to pre–register, call (225) 562-2328.

 To be eligible to receive quarterly commodities, an individual must be a resident of St. James Parish and meet the income guidelines below.
